Northern support wanes
Northern voters grow indifferent to events in the South during the 1870s. They shift their attention to national concerns (e.g. the panic of 1873 and the corruption in the Grant administration). A forgiveness aspiration between the different regions started to evolve. The North began to turn against the Reconstruction policies.
Northerners start to focus on their own and national problems than reform in the South.
