Freedmen’s Bureau Acts
In February of 1866, Congress voted to continue and enlarge Freedmen’s Bureau. This bureau, created by Congress, helped former slaves and poor whites in the South by giving them clothing and food. The bureau also set up at least 40 hospitals, about 4,000 schools, 61 industrial establishments and 74 teacher-training centers.
This act is a general statement that encompasses many aspects of life that helps freed blacks in various ways such as education, healthcare and businesses.
